How Do I Perform a Traceroute?
Posted by Support on 22 February 2008 07:04 AM
To perform a traceroute under Windows:

  • Click "Start" on the Windows Desktop, then "Run".

  • In the prompt which appears, enter "command" and click on "OK".

  • At the command prompt, enter the following command exactly as it appears here:

    tracert aiso.net >> c:\aiso_trace.txt

  • Open up "aiso_trace.txt", which should appear in your C:\ directory (main directory of your hard drive).

  • Copy the contents into an e-mail, which you should then send to our support team. We can then pass on the information to our upstream provider and they may be able to route around the problem.

To perform a trace route output on a Linux/UNIX shell:

  • Open up a new shell window.

  • Execute the following command from the bash:

    traceroute aiso.net >> ~/trace-output.txt

  • Open up "trace-output.txt" , which should appear on your desktop.

  • Copy the contents into an e-mail, which you should then send to our support team. We can then pass on the information to our upstream provider and they may be able to route around the problem.

To perform a trace route output on a Mac:

  • Open a terminal application in /Applications/Utilities/Terminal.app

  • Execute the following command:

    traceroute aiso.net > ~/trace-output.txt ; open ~/trace-output.txt

  • A txt file with traceroute results will open in your default text editor.

  • Copy the contents into an e-mail, which you should then send to our support team. We can then pass on the information to our upstream provider and they may be able to route around the problem.
