How do I fix a 404 Not Found error for my linux alias/sub-domain/domain add-on such as the following:

Not Found

The requested URL /subdomain-name/.php was not found on this server.

The issue is that apache for the linux domain alias is reading the .htaccess file from the root domain and not the domain alias. To fix this error add the following into an .htaccess file in the folder of the linux domain alias:

RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /
